i’ve gotten to the epilogue of “War and Peace”… it made me feel sad to have come to the end of a beautiful, heavy journey of literature. “now you can go back and re-read your favorite parts…” said m, but no, i am exhausted by the journey, i do not want to back again, though i will always remember tolstoy’s all-encompassing god-like philosophy, which has compassion for all human creatures and mocks the egoistic follies which lead to deadly ends. my admiration for Tolstoy is immense, and increased even more when i learned he had influenced the young Mahatma Gandhi in his development of theories of “Satyagraha” & Nonviolence… they actually had a correspondance!
